CONWAY - Hendrix suffered a 4-2 loss to Belhaven on Sunday afternoon at Warrior Soccer Field. The Warriors scored both of their goals in the second half through
Josh Montgomery, but Belhaven finished with a 20-10 shot advantage as the home side failed to generate more opportunities.
Josh Montgomery bagged his first brace of the season and led the Warriors with four shots, three of which were on goal. Joan Puigpinos recorded an assist on Montgomery's second goal via an in-swinging ball into the six-yard box that found Montgomery's head.
Cameron Joniec played all 90 minutes in goal and finished with five saves.
The Warriors fell behind on Belhaven's goal at 5:11 but held the margin at 1-0 through a sustained stretch of pressure, with Joniec making saves at 13:54, 14:00 and 19:56. Belhaven added a second goal at 38:15, and the Warriors answered with a late stretch that included two corner kicks and shots by
Jaden Esquenazi and
Tripp Ortega. The half ended with the Warriors trailing 2-0.
Montgomery accounted for the Warriors' scoring in the second half, scoring at 71:57 to make it 3-1 and again at 88:32 off Puigpinos' assist. The Warriors generated a late set-piece push with three corner kicks from 85:38 to 88:22 before Montgomery's second goal.
The Warriors will get a week and a half of rest before hosting East Texas Baptist for a midweek contest on September 30.
