CONWAY - Hendrix defeated Lyon 2-0 on Wednesday evening at Warrior Soccer Field to earn their first win of the year. The Warriors entered the evening having lost their last four matches but had no problem with the Scots, outshooting their instate foes 16-4 on the night.
Sierra Dobson converted from the spot for Hendrix's opener midway through the first half after
Nina Smith was brought down inside the box.
Evi Kolman doubled the home side's advantage five minutes into the second half with her first goal of the season.Â
Kennedy Lewis played all 90 minutes in goal in what was a very comfortable night for the senior goalkeeper.
Nina Smith led the Warriors with three shots on goal.
The Warriors turned their first-half pressure into a 1-0 lead when Dobson scored on a penalty kick at 26:38. Earlier, the Warriors earned two corner kicks and took four shots before the goal, then added a saved chance from
Chloe Peters in the 31st minute. Lyon did not attempt a shot until 44:42, and the Warriors carried the 1-0 advantage into halftime.
The Warriors added to their lead at 48:40 when Kolman scored to make it 2-0 with a fine finish off her left foot into the roof of the net from close finish. The Warriors kept pressure on late, recording five shots and two corner kicks in the final 15 minutes to see out a comfortable 2-0 home win.
The win takes Hendrix to 1-5-1 on the season and sends the Warriors into conference play on the back of a victory in their final nonconference tuneup. They will start league play in the SCAC on Sunday, October 4 with an afternoon kick-off against the University of Dallas at Warrior Soccer Field.
