SHERMAN, Texas - Hendrix dominated Austin College 44-6 on Saturday afternoon at Apple Stadium to improve to 2-1 on the year. The Warriors scored 14 points in the first quarter and 27 in the second quarter, and Austin College failed to score at allafter the first quarter. The Warriors finished with 345 passing yards, 172 rushing yards and 25 first downs, while their defense held Austin to 34 rushing yards and 10 first downs.
Jake Blice completed 14 of 18 passes for 307 yards and five touchdowns without an interception in his lone half of work.
Westin Bruce caught eight passes for 146 yards and a touchdown.
Brooks McGee added four receptions for 120 yards and three touchdowns.
Noah Jackson rushed 14 times for 108 yards to mark his first 100+ yard game.
In the first quarter, the Warriors outscored Austin 14-6, with Blice throwing touchdown passes of 25 yards to Bruce and 51 yards to McGee. The teams traded long scoring drives early, as the Warriors scored on drives of 78 and 75 yards while Austin's touchdown came on a 79-yard possession.
The second quarter brought 27 unanswered Warriors points, with Blice throwing touchdown passes to McGee twice and Almonzo Payne while
Aiden Sainer blocked a punt that went for a touchdown. The Warriors' defense kept Austin off the board with three punts and a fumble recovery in the quarter, and the final takeaway set up a three-play, 32-second touchdown drive that helped send the Warriors into halftime ahead 41-6.
In the third quarter, the Warriors outscored Austin 3-0, getting their points on
Clay Brandenburg's 37-yard field goal after
Jaedin Kim's 23-yard punt return and Jackson's 25-yard run helped set up the possession. Austin put together a 10-play, 43-yard drive but missed a 39-yard field goal, and the Warriors kept Austin off the scoreboard while adding a shared sack by
Hunter Talley and
Beckett Moore later in the quarter.
The fourth quarter was scoreless, with the Warriors finishing off a 44-6 win. The Warriors' defense held Austin's three full fourth-quarter possessions to 5, 2 and minus-2 yards, with
Casen Foster,
J.B. Gonzalez and
Braxton Chaplin involved in back-to-back sacks to force a turnover on downs. The Warriors' offense used a 13-play, 55-yard drive that took 6:21 off the clock, though it ended on downs at the Austin 24.
The Warriors' passing game produced two first-quarter touchdown drives, with Blice completing a 25-yard touchdown to Bruce on the opening possession and a 51-yard touchdown to McGee 36 seconds after Austin scored. The second score capped a two-play, 75-yard drive after Blice hit
Amare Foreman for 24 yards, and Brandenburg made both extra points. The Warriors finished the quarter leading 14-6.
The Warriors scored 27 second-quarter points while holding Austin scoreless, beginning the quarter's scoring on Blice's 12-yard touchdown pass to McGee. Blice later hit Almonzo Payne for a 17-yard touchdown, and Sainer blocked a punt that produced another Warriors score. After Dee Woods forced a fumble and
Sam Spurlock recovered it, Blice found McGee for a 39-yard touchdown with 54 seconds left, sending the Warriors to halftime ahead 41-6.
The Warriors scored the only points of the third quarter after
Jaedin Kim's 23-yard punt return and Jackson's 25-yard run set up Brandenburg's 37-yard field goal with 11:23 left. The defense kept Austin off the board, with Dee Woods breaking up a third-down pass before a missed 39-yard field goal on Austin's next drive. The Warriors finished the quarter ahead 44-6.
The Warriors kept the fourth quarter scoreless, highlighted by a 13-play, 55-yard drive that used 6:21 and reached the Austin 24 before ending on downs. After a later Warriors interception gave Austin the ball at the Warriors 44, Foster and Gonzalez combined on a third-down sack before Gonzalez and Chaplin followed with another sack on fourth down. The Warriors ran out the final 1:21 to seal out the win.
