Matt Maurer enters into his first season as an assistant coach with the Hendrix Warriors baseball program, where he will primarily work with the catchers and assist with hitting and recruiting efforts.
Maurer played four years under coach Lou Petrucci at Ward Melville High School, where he was a two-year starter and an all-league selection in his senior year as well as serving as the team captain. Maurer also played under fellow Hendrix assistant coach Matt Marsh at Ward Melville and in the summer for Motus Academy.
Maurer went on to play baseball at Post University, Suffolk Community College, and Reinhardt University.
In his time at Suffolk, he was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2020-21 and received a gold glove behind the plate for the team that would go on to win the Region XV championship.
After transferring to Reinhardt, Maurer played a variety of positions and made most of his starts at catcher and first base. In 2024, he was part of the winningest team in school history and was named to the All-Tournament team for his play in the conference tournament.Reinhardt would host a pod in the NAIA Opening Round, where Maurer was named All-Tournament for the Waleska Bracket after helping the Eagles to their second-ever Opening Round championship. Reinhardt went on to advance to the NAIA World Series, where Maurer and the Eagles got their first World Series win in school history. The Eagles rattled off three wins to begin the World Series but would fall a game short of being able to play for a national championship. Maurere was named to the All-World Series team for his performance.
Maurer has a Bachelor's in Sports Studies and a Master's in Sports Studies.
