CONWAY, Ark. – The Hendrix College women's tennis team earned their second consecutive win by defeating the University of the Ozarks 5-4 at the Hendrix Tennis Courts on Sunday. The Warriors (2-3) outlasted the visiting Lady Eagles in a match that last nearly five hours.
The match came down to the second singles matchup between Warrior junior
Saranya Prathibha and Whitney Lewis. Prathibha took the first set 6-2, but Lewis evened it up with a 7-6 win in the second. Prathibha won the match with a 10-6 tiebreaker.
The Warriors had to win four of the six singles matches after earning only one point in doubles. Freshman
Madison Schallhorn defeated Tara Richards 6-0, 7-5 in third singles. Senior
Arden Brazzeal beat Elly Eibes 6-2, 6-2 in number one singles and sophomore
Hannah Smashey topped Mollie Wilkins 6-0, 6-1 at the fourth spot.
Hendrix' doubles point came at the number two flight where Prathibha and Smashey downed Richards and Wilkinson 8-3.
Hendrix will be off until Mar. 9 when they take on Howard Payne and Austin at the Austin College Invitational in Sherman, Texas.
