Warriors Defeat Scots, Fall to Tigers

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College volleyball team split again on the second day of the Rhodes Invitational at Mallory-Hyde Gymnasium on Sunday. The Warriors (7-5) lost to East Texas Baptist University 25-20, 21-25, 25-23, 25-19 in the opener, then swept Maryville College 25-12, 25-22, 25-21.

Againt the Tigers (8-3), the Warriors hit just .133 with 50 kills, three aces, 70 digs and 10 blocks. ETBU hit .140 with 51 kills, six aces, 71 digs and 10 blocks.

Freshman outside hitter MC Rogers connected on a season-best 19 kills to go with seven digs and four blocks to lead the Orange & Black. Freshman right side Natalie Masten had nine kills. Freshman Holyn Duyck assisted 27 points and sophomore libero Jill Sikes led the defense with 19 digs. Junior Ella Concavage-Nasar also dug 15 balls and freshman Leila Matsumot came up with 11 digs. Freshman middle blocker Grace Griffin registered six blocks.

ETBU was led by Kolby Sharp with 16 kills and a .483 hitting percentage. Hannah Jones had 17 digs.

In the win over the Scots (1-12), the Warriors hit .273 with 39 kills, seven aces, 49 digs and five blocks. Maryville hit .145 with 33 kills, no aces, 44 digs and four blocks.

Duyck hit .412 with eight kills and 16 assists and Rogers and freshman middle blocker Jen Karnes also added eight kills each. Freshman outside Samantha Stockdale had a season-best seven kills and hit .429. Freshman setter Allison Gaia recorded 21 assists. Concavage-Nasar had 14 digs and sophomore Felicia Beeman added 11.

Kristen Sharp led Maryville with 13 kills and Mallory Bonee had 14 digs.

Hendrix will play two matches at cross-town foe Central Baptist College on Tuesday night beginning at 5 p.m.
