SHREVEPORT, La. - The Hendrix College men's soccer team earned a 2-1 victory over non-conference foe Centenary (La.) on Tuesday night.
Alex Cummings scored early and
John Hablitz scored his first career goal as the Warriors rolled to victory.
Jerry Thomeczek earned the win in net in his first start of the season. The junior made five saves to keep the home team at bay. Austin Andrews took the loss for Centenary in net, making a pair of saves.
Hendrix took control of the game early as Cummings netted his first goal of the year in the third minute of the game. The goal was scored just 2:18 into the game, the team's fastest score of the year. The Warriors held onto their lead through the first half despite being outshot 12-8 and went into halftime up 1-0.
In the second half, the Warriors extended their lead with a goal in the first few minutes of the frame.
John Hablitz notched the first goal of his career just 4:57 into the second half, giving the team a 2-0 lead with 40 minutes to play.Â
The Gents answered to cut the lead to 2-1 in the 55th minute when Ivann Amaya found Zach Kidder to cut the Hendrix lead in half. For the rest of the period Centenary bombarded the Hendrix defense as the Warriors held the lead, outshooting Hendrix 13-2 in the second half, but Thomeczek and the Orange and Black defensive line held strong.
 Hablitz's first career goal held as the game-winner for the Warriors as they earned a 2-1 victory, their first on the road this season.
Hendrix moves to 3-9-1 on the season and will return to action on Friday, October 17 when they host Southern Athletic Association foe Centre at 8 p.m.
