GRANVILLE, Ohio - The Hendrix College field hockey team took to the road over fall break, heading up to Denison University in Granville, Ohio. The Warriors took on Ohio Wesleyan University in their first of two games over the weekend, falling to the Bishops 4-1 on Friday morning.
The teams played evenly throughout the game, with OWU edging Hendrix in shots 17-16, but the Warriors were unable to capitalize on their opportunities.
Debbie Crawford notched the lone tally for the Orange and Black.
The Bishops jumped out to an early lead, scoring back-to-back goals in the 22nd and 23rd minutes. The Warriors settled in on defense after the pair of letdowns, and held Ohio Wesleyan without a goal the rest of the half, but went into the break trailing 2-0.
In the second period, Crawford cut the Bishops' lead in half, scoring her first career goal. The junior was camped out on the right post when
Lotte Kraaijenbrink settled a defensive save deflection and dished it to Crawford for the easy put-in. The assist was Kraaijenbrink's fifth of the season and the 12th of her career.
The Warriors pushed for the tying goal in the late minutes, but their offensive pressure left them vulnerable to counter-attack. Their push forward allowed for two late OWU goals that sealed the win for the Bishops, as they pulled away to a 4-1 win.
Gabryele Pochron made six saves in the game, taking the loss in net.
Bridget Umble also made a defensive save, her fifth of the season. Jackie Feliciano made four saves for the Bishops in net, earning the win, while the OWU back line combined for a pair of defensive saves as well.
Hendrix moves to 2-11 on the season and will take on host Denison University on Saturday, October 18 at 11 a.m. EST.
