Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Warriors Edged by Sewanee

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College men's soccer team fell victim to a late second half goal in a 1-0 loss to Southern Athletic Association opponent Sewanee - The University of the South on Sunday afternoon.

The squad's four senoirs were honored in a pre-game ceremony today, marking the last regular season home game of their Hendrix careers. Eric Bracy, Alex Cummings, Joe Esrock, and Greg Gandy were all honored for their four years on the men's soccer squad, and each earned the start.

Eric Bracy made six saves in net for the Warriors, but came out with the tough-luck loss. Conrad Bandoroff made three saves on his way to a shutout victory for Sewanee.

In the first half, Hendrix had several opportunities to score, but were denied by Bandoroff. The team's best chance came on a broken play that was trapped down by Joe Esrock. The senior found Ryan Stanowski open on the left flank. Stanowski took one dribble towards the middle before letting loose on a great strike aimed at the far post. Bandoroff had to make a diving fingertip save to keep the ball out of the goal and the Warriors off of the scoreboard.

In the second frame, Sewanee outshot the Warriors 8-4 and finally cashed in on their relentless pressure in the 80th minute. Solly Thomas crossed a ball in from the right flank into a dangerous area, but Bracy was able to parry the ball away. The loose ball was collected by Bobby Zolper, who fired a shot just out of the reach of the lunging Bracy, that gave the Tigers a 1-0 lead with just over 10 minutes remaining. The final minutes ticked by without the Warriors finding a tally as Sewanee held onto their slim lead.

Sewanee improves to 5-7-1 on the season and 2-1-1 in conference play. The Warriors move to 3-11-1 on the season, including an 0-4-0 mark in the SAA. They will return to action on October 24 when they travel to Berry College.
