MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Hendrix College women's soccer team put a scare into the top team in the Southern Athletic Association, but ultimately fell to Berry College 3-1 on Friday afternoon.
Hendrix held a 1-0 lead at halftime, but couldn't contain the Vikings offense in the second half as the home team scored three unanswered goals in the final frame.
Katherin Aristondo scored the go-ahead goal for the Warriors in the 43rd minute of the game, giving the visitors a 1-0 edge at the half. The forward had entered the game at the 41:46 mark, and scored just 1:01 later off of an assist from
Samantha Lallas. Super-sub Aristondo's goal was the first of her career and was the first that Berry has allowed in conference play this season.
In the second half, the Warriors were outshot 14-2 by the Vikings as they ramped up their offensive pressure. The Hendrix back line held onto their 1-0 cushion for dear life, until the 63rd minute when Maggie Midkiff netted her 20th goal of the season to tie the game. Michaela Routh added a pair of goals in the 69th and 79th minutes to give the Vikings the advantage they needed to take down the Warriors, 3-1.
Jordan Rausch made five saves for the Warriors but took the loss in net. Berry goalkeeper Jackie McGivney made just one save, but earned the win in net for the Vikings. Berry improves to 12-3-0 on the season and stays undefeated at 5-0-0 in SAA play. Hendrix moves to 6-7-1 on the year and holds a 1-3-1 mark in conference play. The Warriors will return to action on Sunday, October 26 when they travel to Atlanta, Ga. to take on Oglethorpe in another SAA tilt.
