ATLANTA, Ga. - After allowing an early goal, the Hendrix College women's soccer team put up four first-half tallies to secure a 4-2 win over Southern Athletic Association rival Oglethorpe University on Sunday afternoon.
Samantha Lallas led the comeback offering up an assist and scoring two goals while
Sydney King added a pair of assists.
Lucy Moore notched her second goal of the season while
Katherin Aristondo buried her second in as many games as the Warriors clipped the Stormy Petrels.
Jordan Rausch made five saves to earn the win in net for the Warriors. Oglethorpe split time between Sarah Craig and Bailey Evans. Craig allowed four goals and made two saves in the first half to take the loss while Evans turned away three attempts in the second half without allowing a goal.
The Stormy Petrels took an early 1-0 lead on a long shot. Jasmine Jakes scored her first goal of the season in the 10th minute to give the home team the one-goal advantage.Â
Hndrix responded with a trio of goals to take the lead. Just 2:19 after the Stormy Petrels got on the board,
Lucy Moore netted the equalizer by finishing off a corner kick. Lallas earned her seventh assist of the year on the play.Â
The junior forward then took matters into her own hands. In the 19th minute, Lallas collected a cross from
Sydney King and buried it to notch the go-ahead goal. Just 2:22 later King found her linemate again. Lallas netted her second goal of the game, giving the Warriors a 3-1 lead midway through the first half.
With just over five minutes until the halftime whistle, Oglethorpe cut the Hendrix lead in half.
Jordan Rausch parried away the Stormy Petrels' first attempt, but Hannah Kuhn finished off the rebound to bring the home team to within one goal.Â
Another quick counter from the Warriors allowed them to regain their two-goal lead.
Emma Paul earned the assist on the play, finding
Katherin Aristondo for the score. Aristondo's goal notched her second of the weekend, with both coming in the final five minutes of the first half. The Warriors took their 4-2 advantage into halftime.
After the break, Hendrix controlled the tempo of the game, outshooting the Stormy Petrels 8-7 and earning six corner kicks to Oglethorpe's two. Rausch and the Warriors' back line held their opponents in check in the second half, preventing them from scoring, and allowing the Warriors to walk away with the 4-2 win.
Hendrix improves to 7-7-1 on the season and jumps to 2-3-1 in the SAA. The squad will return to action on Wednesday, October 29 when they host Lyon College in a non-conference tune-up.
