Lallas Ties Program Mark as Warriors Blank Lyon

CONWAY, Ark. - In their final home game of the season, the Hendrix College women's soccer team earned a 2-0 win over Lyon College on Wednesday night at Warrior Field. Jordan Rausch and the Hendrix defense recorded their fourth shutout of the season, and Samantha Lallas tied the single-season points record with the game-winning goal.

Rausch made just one save in the win for the Warriors as the home team outshot their opponent 39-1. Stephanie Spiteri took the loss in net for the Scots, but made 12 saves in 73 minutes. Ali Erti made one save in the final 17 minutes of the game for Lyon.

The Warriors generated scoring chances from the very beginning, pressuring the Lyon defense with through balls and several shots. Hendrix bombarded the net with seven shots on goal in the first half, but all of them were turned away by Spiteri.

In the second half, Samantha Lallas finally broke the stalemate in the 60th minute. The Warriors' leading scorer buried her 17th goal of the season off of a rebound to put the home team ahead 1-0. With the score, Lallas tied the Hendrix women's soccer single-season points record. Lallas' 41 points on the season ties Stephanie Benning, who set the record with 19 goals and three assists in 1999 and tied it again in 2000 with 20 goals and an assist.

Hendrix added to their lead nearly eight minutes later. Lucy Moore beat a defender on the right side of the box and played a ball to the back post where Sydney Fobare touched it to Janie Stultz in the goal mouth. Stultz one-touched the ball into the net to put the Warriors ahead 2-0 in the 68th minute of play.

The Warriors continued pressing the Lyon defensive line, managing 20 second half shots. Jordan Rausch prevented the Scots from scoring on their only opportunity of the night, stopping Isabel Suarez on a breakaway to keep the clean sheet for Hendrix.

The Orange and Black improve to 8-7-1 on the season, and will take on Birmingham-Southern in their final game of the regular season on Saturday, November 1.
