CONWAY, Ark. – The Hendrix College volleyball team improved to 16-4 on the season with a pair of 3-0 sweeps on Friday night. The Warriors earned a conference victory over Southern Athletic Association foe Oglethorpe University, and earned a non-conference win over Rust College.
In the first match of the evening,
MC Rogers led Hendrix over the Stormy Petrels with her eighth double-double of the season. The sophomore posted a match-best 15 kills and added 11 digs to pace the Warriors.
Lauren Petrisin added 11 kills while
Bradi Ryan tacked on 10 for the home team.
Felicia Beeman led the team with 15 digs while
Allison Gaia dished out 23 assists.
Kaitlyn Woodruff earned nine kills for Oglethorpe, while Anna Marie DiSalvo and Lisa Inglis each chipped in with six kills. Katie Stewart set up 19 assists while Megan Makuck and DiSalvo shared the team-lead with 10 digs apiece.
The Stormy Petrels gave the Warriors a scare in the first set, pushing the home team to their limits. Hendrix trailed 22-21 in the first set, but rallied to win four of the next five points to take the set 25-23.
In the second set, Hendrix jumped out to an 11-3 lead behind kills from Ryan, Petrisin, Rogers, and
Sara Dyslin. The home team maintained an eight-point lead through most of the set until the Stormy Petrels went on a 6-0 run to cut their deficit to 20-18. The Warriors weathered the storm though, taking five of the last eight points to win the set 25-21.
In the third set, Hendrix finished the sweep of Oglethorpe with a 25-19 victory.
Against Rust,
Samantha Stockdale had a match-high nine kills while
Kierstin Carr led the Warriors with a .714 hitting percentage.
Marlee Matlock finished with 10 assists while
Holyn Duyck dished out 15.
Katie Beard finished with eight service aces, leading the Warriors who finished with 23 aces as a team, their highest total of the season.
Hendrix will return to action on Saturday, October 4
th when they host SAA rival Berry College at 11 a.m. before taking on Rust College at 1 p.m.
