CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College volleyball team lost their first set of the day, but rattled off six straight set wins to earn a 3-1 victory over Southern Athletic Association rival Berry College and a 3-0 sweep over Rust college for the second straight day.
The Warriors played outstanding defense at the net against the Vikings, tallying 14 total team blocks.
Natalie Masten,
Samantha Stockdale, and
Sara Dyslin each had four block assists while Dyslin also tallied two solo blocks.
MC Rogers posted her fifth double-double in her last seven matches, leading the team with 16 kills and earning 12 digs.
Bradi Ryan and
Lauren Petrisin each had 13 kills for the Warriors as well.
Felicia Beeman led Hendrix with 17 digs while
Allison Gaia led the team with 23 assists.
Hendrix fell behind in the early going, dropping their first set to Berry 25-18, but the Warriors quickly rebounded earning a 25-19 win in the second set. The Orange and Black carried that momentum with them to the third and fourth set, earning identical 25-20 wins in each frame.Â
The victory over the Vikings marks the first time the Warriors have beaten their conference foe. Hendrix had gone 0-5 against Berry in their previous meetings dating back to 2012.
After their win over Berry, Hendrix took on Rust College for the second consecutive day. The Warriors handled the Bearcats, hitting .426 as a team in a 3-0 sweep.
Rowan Bond led the team with eight kills while
Katie Beard collected seven.
Kierstin Carr and
Samantha Stockdale each finished with six kills in the match.
Holyn Duyck finished with a team-high 17 assists while
Marlee Matlock added 13. Duyck also led the team with seven digs while senior
Ella Concavage-Nasar had six. Carr and
Catey May led the team defensively, each with three block assists.
The Warriors held the Bearcats under 10 points in each of their first two sets, beating Rust 25-8 and 25-5 in the first two sets. In the third, the Bearcats challenged the Warriors with a desperation rally, but couldn't manage to topple Hendrix as the home team earned a 25-14 third set win to complete the sweep. Â
The Warriors improve to 18-4 on the season and boost their SAA record to 5-2. The squad will return to action on Wednesday, October 8th when they travel to Rhodes College to take on the Lynx in an SAA showdown. The Warriors beat the Lynx 3-0 in their prior meeting this season.
