Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Warriors Down CBC in Exhibition

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College women's basketball team took the floor for the first time this season in an exhibition matchup against Central Baptist College on Monday night at Grove Gym. Though the game was marked as an exhibition, the intensity and grit shown by both teams was very real as the Warriors pulled out a thrilling 74-70 victory.

The Lady Mustangs' Rachel Medina led all scorers with 14 points on the night, while teammate Courtey Davidson scored 12 points, all from the foul line, going 12-for-12 from the stripe. Aaliyah Block led CBC with 13 rebounds and chipped in with four points.

Hendrix finished with four plays in double-digits, led by Anna King and Kati Broberg, who each finished with 13. Broberg finished with four three-pointers to pace the Warriors from long distance, while King grabbed a team-high seven rebounds. Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler had 10 points and dished off five assists for Hendrix.

The Orange and Black jumped out to a 7-0 lead to begin the game on back-to-back three-pointers from Broberg and Kriesel-Bigler. The team started the night by going 3-for-3 from behind the arc in the first four minutes of play. The Mustangs cut the deficit to two points later in the half, feeding the ball inside to Abbi Stearns for a pair of layups. The center cut the Warriors'
lead to 17-15 nearly midway through the first half.

With the Mustangs hanging on, the Warriors spread the ball around the floor to go on a 13-6 run to extend their lead to 30-21, their largest margin of the night. The run was capped by another huge three-pointer from Broberg on an assist from Kriesel-Bigler, putting the Warriors up nine. The Mustangs finished the half with a flurry, pounding the paint and converting their foul shots to cut the lead to just one with 25 seconds to go in the half. On the Warriors' final possession, Madison Martin cleaned up the glass, snaring an offensive rebound and finishing the putback to give the home team a 38-35 heading into the halftime break.

After the break, the teams battled through a tightly contested second half with three ties and three lead changes, and neither team taking an advantage larger than six points. With the game tied at 64-64 and just four minutes remaining, the Warriors turned to junior guard Estrella Flores. Flores drilled back-to-back threes to put the Warriors ahead by six with 2:49 remaining, a lead they would not relinquish for the rest of the game.

Hendrix will return to action on Saturday, November 15 when they host the Hendrix College Warrior Classic. The Orange and Black will take on MacMurray on Saturday at 8 p.m. before battling Rust on Sunday, November 16 at 3 p.m.
