CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College women's basketball team took a lead into halftime, but fell victim to second half pressure as LeTourneau University topped the Warriors 67-61 on Friday night at Grove Gym.
Anna King and
Estrella Flores combined to provide more than half of the offense for the Warriors, with each reaching a career-high in points scored. King finished with 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting and added a career-best 13 rebounds for her first double-double of the season while Flores dropped 16 including a trio of three-pointers.
Breann Forbes helped out on the defensive end with a team-best three steals on the night.
Bria Goodman led the scoring for LeTourneau, who saw 11 different players register at least a point, with 14 while Rebecca Stewart came away with 11. The YellowJackets attacked the painted area all night, outscoring Hendrix 40-18 on points in the paint.Â

The YellowJackets jumped out to an early lead, opening the game on a 10-5 run before the Warriors finally woke up. The home team poured in 14 straight points to take their largest advantage of the night, leading LeTourneau 19-10 with 10:14 left in the first half. With 4:35 left in the half, Bria Goodman tied the game for the YellowJackets with a layup to draw the game even at 20-20. In the final four minutes of the first half, King and Flores combined for nine points to help keep the Warriors ahead. Hendrix entered the locker room at the half holding onto a 29-24 lead.
In the second half, the YellowJackets came out in a full-court press, forcing the Warriors to work to bring the ball up the court. The pressure forced two early turnovers that allowed the visitors to take a 30-29 lead in the early stages of the second half. From that point, the teams continued to trade baskets until the midway point of the half when
Breann Forbes put the Warriors ahead by two with a foul shot. The home team led 42-40, but the YellowJackets continued to pressure the Orange and Black.Â
LeTourneau turned up the full-court pressure, keeping the Warriors from getting comfortable on the offensive end. The energetic defense translated into offense for the visitors as they went on a 22-10 run to take a 62-52 lead with 3:12 remaining in the game.Â
In the final three minutes, Hendrix continued to push the tempo on the offensive end, getting quick buckets to cut into the lead. After a pair of foul shots from
Katy Gallien, a steal by Forbes turned into a layup at the other end for King. The Warriors forced another turnover and continued to feed King, who hit a mid-range jumper and another layup to cut the lead to 62-60 with 34 seconds remaining. In teh final seconds, Hendrix continued to battle to tie the game, but LeTourneau hit their foul shots down the stretch to retain the lead and pull away to the 67-61 victory.Â
Hendrix falls to 1-2 on the season and will take on No. 13 UT Tyler on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.Â
