CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College women's basketball team put a scare into one of the top teams in the nation, but ultimately fell to 13th-ranked University of Texas at Tyler by the score of 72-62. The Warriors trailed by just three points midway through the second half, but the Patriots pulled away in the final minutes to earn their third straight win.
The Orange and Black shot a high percentage from the floor, sinking 23-of-45 field goal attempts for a 51.1% shooting percentage, but committed 21 turnovers that UT Tyler turned into 22 points.
Anna King led the Warriors with a perosnal-best 21 points while
Sara Dyslin poured in 12 from the post. Both forwards finished with a team-high seven rebounds. Teylor Seals paved the way for the Patriots with 21 points on 8-of-18 shooting, including four three-pointers.
Hendrix found themselves in an early hole as the Patriots jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first five minutes of play. The Warriors trailed by 11 after seven minutes, before going on a 13-4 run to cut the Patriots lead to just one wiht 7:44 remaining in the first half.
Katy Gallien and
Sara Dyslin spurred the run with four points each during the stretch. Late in the first half, the Patriots regrouped and turned turnovers into points to take a 35-26 lead into the halftime break.Â
The Warriors came out of the locker room determined to test the 13th-ranked team in the nation, trading baskets with the Patriots fo rthe first five minutes of the half. Trailing 45-35 with 14:05 remaining in the game, Hendrix went on a 9-2 run by feeding posts. King and Dyslin led the run, as the Warriors scored eight straight ponts in the paint to cut into the UT Tyler lead. With 9:42 remaining, the home team had cut the lead to 47-44.
With momentum swinging in the Warriors direction, UT Tyler's Teylor Seals hit a pair of huge triples to extend her team's lead back to double-digits. With five minutes left in the game, the Orange and Black cut the lead to seven points on a jumper from
Anna King, but would get no closer as the Patriots closed out the game.
Hendrix falls to 1-3 on the season and will return to action on Sunday, November 30 when they host University of Dallas.
