Hendrix Hands Dallas First Loss

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College women's basketball team took down the previously undefeated University of Dallas Lady Crusaders 75-66 at Grove Gymnasium on Sunday afternoon. Forwards Anna King and Sara Dyslin each tallied double-doubles for the Warriors as the team earned their second win of the season.

King finished with 11 points and 13 rebounds while Dyslin scored a career-best 17 points on 8-of-10 shooting and pulled down 21 rebounds, including six on the offensive glass. Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler chipped in with 13 points and added five assists while Peyton Hurst downed eight points off the bench, including a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line to help secure the Warriors' win.

Brooke Hagemann led four Lady Crusaders in double digits, cashing in with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Sammi Tso, Holly Tonry, and Michelle DeCoud each finished with 10 points for the visitors.

The keys to victory for the Warriors were speed, depth, and rebounding. The home team scored 19 fast break points, 12 second-chance points, and the Warriors' bench outscored the Lady Crusaders' bench 36-10 on the day.

Dallas got off to a hot start from beyond the arc, beginning the game on an 8-2 run behind three-pointers from post players Hagemann and Seana Stoia. After a timeout, Hendrix responded with a 13-0 run of their own keyed by Dyslin off the bench. The freshman scored seven points in a 4:15 stretch as the Orange and Black took a 15-8 lead. The Warriors maintained the pressure and rode their momentum to a 40-27 lead at the half.

In the second frame, the home team kept piling it on the Lady Crusaders, keeping the visitors at bay throughout the period. A layup from Cathy Waylan off of a pick and roll with Kriesel-Bigler gave Hendrix their largest lead of the game, an 18-point advantage with 9:22 remaining in the game.

The Lady Crusaders continued to battle, with Hagemann carrying the load in the second half. The forward scored 16 points in the second half to keep the visitors within striking distance. Holly Tonry hit a three-pointer with 2:42 remaining to cut the lead to single-digits making it 70-61, but Dallas would come no closer as the Warriors held on for a 75-66 victory.

University of Dallas falls to 2-1 on the season and will face Southwestern Adventist University on December 3.

Hendrix improves to 2-3 on the season and will return to action on Wednesday, December 3 when they travel to Memphis, Tenn. to take on Southern Athletic Association rival Rhodes College in their conference opener.
