CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College women's tennis team mounted a comeback to defeat John Brown University 5-4 at the Hendrix Indoor Tennis Center on Friday night.
In a match that took six and a half hours, the Warriors (2-1) were down 4-3 with number four and five singles left to play.
Junior
Hannah Smashey need a tiebreaker to win 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6) over Kellie Mowrer in the fourth flight to tie up the match. Senior
Saranya Prathibha overcame a 5-0 deficit in the first set to defeat Amanda Wilkinson 7-6, 6-1 at number five singles to give the Warriors the victory over the Golden Eagles (0-1).
Hendrix took two of the three doubles matches, with Prathibha and Smashey downing Courtney Pinter and Mowrer 8-6 at number two and the number one freshman tandem of
Lauren Mahaney and
Pratheepa Ravikumar defeating Jessie Alexander and Kaela Doyle 8-5.
Ravikumar also needed a tiebreaker to come back against Doyle 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-4) in number one singles.
Hendrix will return to the court on Tuesday when they take on Arkansas Tech at home at 5 p.m.
