GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Hendrix College women's lacrosse team lost the first game in program history 18-3 to Southwestern University on the road Friday night.
Freshman midfielder
Kate Davis put the Warriors (0-1) up 2-0 with goals 1:49 and 4:10 into the game. The Pirates (1-0) answered with 12 straight goals to take a 12-2 lead at halftime. Southwestern tacked on four more goals in the second half, before Davis scored again with an assist from freshman midfielder
Raychl Reger to make the game 16-3. The Pirates ended the game with two more scores in the final three minutes.
SU won 16 draw controls, compared to seven for the Warriors. The Pirates held a slight 17-14 edge in ground balls, but outshout the Warriors 33-12.
Davis scored all three goals for Hendrix on six shots to go with three caused turnovers. Reger had three ground balls, three draw controls and caused two turnovers and freshman defender
Gabryele Pochron recorded four ground balls. Junior midfielder
Landri Wenzel won two draw controls. Freshman
Rebecca Alexander came up with five saves in goal in the first half, and freshman
Emily Rankin stopped three shots in the second half.
Natalie Rivera and Anne Brown led Southwestern with five goals each. Adrienne Dodd recorded five ground balls and eight draw controls.
Hendrix will travel to Irving, Texas on Sunday to face the University of Dallas at 11 a.m.
