CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College men's basketball team dropped a conference game to Southern Athletic Association foe Rhodes College on Saturday, falling 73-57 to the visiting Lynx.
Gabe Gumm led the Warriors with a career-high 13 points and dished off three assists to go with two steals, while
Drew Nikolovski finished with 11 points.
Luke Vance was limited to just eight points, but grabbed 13 rebounds, including five on the offensive glass.
Alec Conard led the team squad four blocks as the team combined for a program-record 10 blocked shots in the contest.
Luke Collins led the Lynx with 24 points while Ryan Van Hoeck and Drew Miller each cashed in with 12 points. Geoff Livsey snagged a team-high nine rebounds and Tyler Gee came away with a squad-best three steals.
Both teams shot poorly in the game, with the Warriors finishing 19-for-52 from the floor (36.5%) and the Lynx going just 19-for-47 from the floor (40.4%). Rhodes converted their chances from the foul line however, going 31-for-35 from the charity stripe. Hendrix managed to get to the line just 15 times in the game, converting 11 foul shots.
In the first half, the Warriors began the game on pace with the Lynx, traded baskets through the first five minutes of play. Rhodes pulled away to a big lead with a 9-1 run anchored by five points from Collins. Hendrix continued to fight to stay in the game, but found themselves trailing 35-25 at the halftime break.
In the second frame, the Warriors hung around, preventing the Lynx from running away with the game by playing steadfast defense. Nikolovski cut the Rhodes lead to just six points nearly midway through the period with a three-pointer. The bucket made the score 48-42 with 10:52 to play.
Rhodes responded with a 10-0 run over the next 4:48 to re-establish their double-digit lead, but the Warriors battled back again. Consecutive threes from Nikolovski and Gumm cut the deficit to 62-55 with 2:51 remaining, but the rally came up short. Hendrix finished the game by shooting 0-for-7 from three-point land in the final 2:30 as the Lynx converted 7-of-8 foul shots down the stretch to seal their victory.
Hendrix moves to 6-9 on the season with a 1-3 record in SAA play. The squad will return to action on Friday, January 23 when they host Sewanee in another SAA contest.Â
