CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College men's basketball team fell just short of a comeback victory on Sunday afternoon, falling to Southern Athletic Association rival Centre College 65-62.
Hank Aldous led all scorers with 19 points in the game, while
Luke Vance chipped in with 12 points.
John Ogle put up a solid line, scoring nine points and grabbing eight rebounds for the Warriors. Blake Scinta scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the Colonels while Matt Gump finished with 15 points and Josh Karsner registered 10.
The Warriors and Colonels traded baskets in the first half, with the leading changing eight times between the two times in the first frame. A pair of free throws by Jordan barrett gave the home team a 23-20 lead with 3:52 to go in the first, but Centre finished the half on a 9-2 run to take a four-point advantage into the halftime break.
In the second half, the Colonels led by as many as 11 before the Warriors mustered a comeback effort. With 4:47 left Centre's Blake Scinta put his team ahead by 11 with a layup but the Orange and Black battled back.
Drew Nikolovski hit a three, followed by a layup by
Luke Vance to cut the lead to 58-50.
John Ogle then came up big on the offensive end, scoring five straight point to bring the Warriors within three.
With 10 seconds remaining, and the home team trailing by four, Vance nailed a timely three-pointer to cut the lead to just one. After a pair of Centre foul shots, the Warriors had a chance to tie the game. The Colonels decided to foul
Hank Aldous on the floor before the team could get a game-tying shot up. Aldous hit both foul shots, but time ran out on the Hendrix comeback and Centre escaped with a 65-62 win.
Hendrix falls to 6-11 on the year with a 1-5 mark against SAA opponents.Â
Hendrix Notes- Hendrix was held to 35.7% shooting in the first half, but improved to 42.9% from the floor in the second half, including a 50.0% clip from behind the arc in the second half.
- The Warriors committed just eight turnovers in the game, the least turnovers in a game this season.
- Ogle tied his season-high marks in both points (9) and rebounds (8).
- The Hendrix bench outscored the Centre bench 21-11 and all 10 Warriors that entered the game scored at least one point.
- Vance's three-pointer in the final seconds was his sixth career three-point field goal, and his first since Nov. 25, 2012.

Centre Notes- Centre shot 37.0% from the floor in the first half, but posted a 55.6% second half shooting percentage, going 10-18 from the floor in the second frame.Â
- Centre's leading scorer Josh Karsner was held to just 10 points in the game, tying his lowest offensive output in conference play this season.
- Tyler Wesley, the SAA's leader in blocked shots, swatted five blocks, matching his season-high.
Up NextHendrix will return to action on Friday when they travel to Jackson, Miss. to take on SAA foe Millsaps College. Hendrix swept the season series with Millsaps last season and has not lost to the Majors since joining the SAA in 2012.
