Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Warriors' Comeback Comes up short against Majors

JACKSON, Miss. - The Hendrix College men's basketball team nearly came away from the Hangar Dome with a win, but their rally fell short of their Southern Athletic Association rival, dropping the contest to Millsaps 71-65 on Friday night.

Hank Aldous finished with a career-high 24 points to lead all scorers in the game, but it wasn't enough for the Warriors to overcome the Majors.

Hendrix trailed throughout the first half, and went into the locker room trailing Millsaps 31-24. Gabe Gumm posted six points and three assists in the first frame to lead the Warriors' offense.

In the second half, Millsaps came out and extended their lead to 16 points in the first six minutes of play. At the 14:05 mark of the second half, Hendrix trailed 44-28. Over the next five minutes, the Warriors mounted a comeback, cutting the lead to six. John Ogle powered up a layup, followed by 10 consecutive points from Aldous to make the score 46-40 with 9:38 remaining.

Hendrix hung around to the end, relying on clutch three-point shooting from Aldous, Drew Nikolovski, and Alec Conard down the stretch to cut the lead to four points with 34 seconds left. Millsaps guard Myles Moore went 5-for-6 from the foul line in the final 30 seconds to keep the Majors on top and allow the home team to escape with the win.

Millsaps moves to 6-12 on the season with a 2-5 record in SAA play. Hendrix moves to 6-12 on the season with a 1-6 mark against conference opponents.

Hendrix Notes
- Hank Aldous' 24 points was the highest scoring performance by a Warrior this season. Aldous and Luke Vance each scored 22 points in previous games this season.
- Alec Conard finished with nine points, scored on a pair of three-pointers and three foul shots. All nine points came in the final 1:30 of the game.
- Hendrix shot 42.6% from the field, going 23-for-54 in the contest.
- Gabe Gumm dished out five assists, the eighth time this season that the point guard has reached that mark.

Millsaps Notes
- The Majors shot 46.7% from the floor including a 50.0% shooting performance (10-for-20) in the second half.
- Millsaps' win over Hendrix is the first for the Majors over the Warriors since the two teams joined the SAA in 2012.
- Moore's 19 points was a season-high offensive output, and his 12 made free throws were a season-best as well.
