Warriors Earn Conference Win on the Road

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Hendrix College men's basketball team went into Mount Berry on Friday night to take on the Berry College Vikings and came away with a huge road victory, beating their Southern Athletic Association foe 79-73.

Travis Garrett led five Warriors in double-figures with a career-high 16 points. The guard went 5-for-7 from the floor with all of his shots coming from beyond the arc. Jordan Barrett added 13 points, including 9-of-12 shooting from the charity stripe and added five assists. Luke Vance finished with 14 points, while Drew Nikolovski chipped in with 13 and Hank Aldous added 11. Gearen Littlefield played a great game off the bench, scoring seven points, gathering a career-high eight rebounds, and swatting away two shots.

Tyler Harville led Berry with 22 points while Nick Marder added 16. Owen Jacobs finished one rebound shy of a double-double, scoring 13 points and pulling down nine boards for the Vikings.

Hendrix shot the lights out, going 22-for-35 from the floor and cashing in on 9-of-13 shots from long distance. The Warriors 62.9% shooting percentage was their best since the 2007-08 season. The Warriors' bench outscored the Vikings' reserves 47-27. Hendrix also won the rebounding battle, grabbing 37 boards while Berry managed just 23.

In the first half, the Orange and Black fell behind as the home team opened the game on a 14-5 run over the first eight minutes. The Warriors came storming back, tying the game at 25-25 on five straight points from Nikolovski with 3:19 left in the first half. At the halftime break, Hendrix trailed the Vikings 32-30.

After the break, Hendrix and Berry traded baskets for the majority of the half with the Vikings keeping their noses in front of the Warriors. It wasn't until the 6:10 mark that the Orange and Black gained their first lead of the second half. Vance battled for position in the paint and converted a layup to give the visitors a 59-58 lead late in the game.

The Vikings took back the lead with 3:52 to go on a foul shot, but Aldous put the Warriors for good on the next possession, responding with a huge three-pointer. The clutch shot made the score 65-63 and Hendrix never trailed from that point on. Aldous and Vance combined to go 6-for-6 from the foul line in the final minute to seal the win.

The victory marks the Warriors' first conference win of the year and the first time the team has beaten the Vikings on their home floor. Hendrix earned a 96-71 victory over Berry last season, but played that game in Conway.

The Warriors improve to 6-6 on the season with a 1-1 mark in the SAA. The squad will take look to earn a second road victory on Sunday when they travel to Atlanta to face Oglethorpe University.
