CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College field hockey team lost their final home game of the season 5-1 to Sewanee - The University of the South in Southern Athletic Association action on Sunday.
Before the game, the Warriors honored seniors
Morgan Fires and
Debbie Crawford.
The Tigers (10-4, 4-3) scored 2:58 into the game on a Virigina Barry goal. The Warriors (2-12, 1-5) tied it up in the 21st minute when Fires ripped a shot from the top of the circle on a penalty corner pass fed by sophomore defender
Bridget Umble and stopped by junior defender
Raychl Reger.
Carrie Anderson scored on a rebound in the 30th minute to give Sewanee a 2-1 lead at halftime. In the second half, Hannah Tompkins scored in the 62nd minute and assisted Emma Horgan's goal in the 64th minute. Anderson scored again in the 65th minute to make the game 5-1.
For the game, Sewanee outshot Hendrix 28-8 and 20-4 on goal. The Warriors had an 8-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Hendrix Notes- Junior goalkeeper
Gabryele Pochron recorded 15 saves. The Reading, Pa. product now has 262 saves on the year, breaking her own school record set in 2013. Pochron also moves into the NCAA Division III Career Top 30 with 725, tying for 29th place.
- Fires' goal was the 10th of her career and third of the season.
- Umble's assist was her career first. Reger had the seventh assist of her career.
- Fires took two shots on goal, while
Madeline Neely and
Elisabeth Kraaijenbrink each took one.
Sewanee Notes- Anderson took seven shots, five on goal and scored on two.
- Barry took eight shots, five on goal.
- Caroline Brennan stopped three shots in front of the cage.
Up NextHendrix will travel to Lexington, Ky. Saturday to face Transylvania in SAA competition.
