LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Hendrix College field hockey team came up with a 3-2 double overtime win over Transylvania University in Southern Athletic Association play Saturday morning.
The host Pioneers (1-12, 0-7) scored in the sixth minute on an Alyson Bergman goal. The Warriors (3-12, 2-5) tied it up in the 14th minute after an interception from sophomore defender
Bridget Umble and excellent passing led to sophomore
Elisabeth Kraaijenbrink tying it up on an assist from
Vanessa Jasso.
Kayla Thurlow put Transy back up in the 20th minute and the game remained 2-1 in the home team's favor until the 44th minute when sophomore
Bailee Wallace fed Umble from the right corner.
Both teams had two penalty corner chances in the first overtime, but both defenses held strong. Junior
Raychl Reger found the cage 1:19 into the second overtime on perfectly executed corner to give the Warriors the 3-2 win.
Morgan Fires recorded the assist.
Hendrix played a man down during regulation and scored the second tying goal with two men down, due to a green card. The Warriors also held the Pioneers scoreless during a three-man down stretch late in the second half.
For the game, Transy outshot Hendrix 32-28overall and 28-9 on goal. The Pioneers also had a 16-6 advantage in penalty corners.
Hendrix Notes- The Warrior defense was anchored by freshman
Miya Loudermilk and graduate student
Morgan Fires. Fires recorded her third defensive save of the year.
- Sophomore
Vanessa Jasso also played an excellent game in the midfield. Her assist was the second for her this season.
- Junior keeper
Gabryele Pochron recorded 25 saves in goal, the sixth most in school history. She now has 750 career saves and moved into 24th place on the all-time NCAA Divsion III list.
- Fires recorded her team-leading fifth assist of the season.
- Kraaijenbrink's goal was her third of the year.
- Wallace recorded her first assist of the year.
- Reger's goal was the sixth of the season and 20th of her career. She moves into third place in the Warrior career goals list and is two away from the record.
- Umble's goal was the first of her career.
Transylvania Notes- Keeper Allyson Benze recorded five saves.
- Jamie Wilder had a defensive save.
- Caroline Patrick, Jessica Chandler and Bergman each took five shots on goal.
Up NextHendrix will wrap up the regular season with first place Centre College in Danville, Ky. at 10 a.m. central time Sunday.
