Hendrix Advances to Sweet 16 With Win at Berry

MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - The Hendrix College volleyball team advance to the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Tournament by defeating host Berry College 18-25, 25-17, 22-25, 25-16, 15-11 at the Cage Center Friday night.

The Warriors (27-8) became the farthest advancing team in the NCAA Tournament from any Hendrix sports by winning their second round match against the Vikings (25-6).

Hendrix will face Emory University, the second-ranked team in the country, on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT. The winner will advance to next weekend's Elite 8 in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The match went back-and-forth with Berry easily taking the first set and Hendrix cruising to a second set win. The third frame was tied at 22-22 but the Warriors made three straight errors to put the Vikings up two sets to one.

Hendrix rebounded to win the fourth set 25-16, forcing the deciding game. In the final set, the Warriors jumped out to a 10-5 lead and held on to win 15-11.

For the match, the Warriors hit .126 with 52 kills, eight aces, 111 digs and nine blocks. The Vikings hit .050 with 44 kills, seven aces, 95 digs and 15.5 blocks


Hendrix Notes
- Junior outside hitter MC Rogers recorded 20 kills, tying her season-high, and came up with 23 digs, also a season-high. It was Rogers' second 20-20 performance of the season.
- Sophomore middle blocker Sara Dyslin added 10 kills and four blocks.
- Sophomore right side Lauren Petrisin came up with seven kills and five blocks.
- Senior libero Felicia Beeman recorded a season-high 36 digs.
- Senior Jill Sikes also had a season-best 18 digs.
- Holyn Duyck, a junior setter, assisted 27 points.
- Junior Allison Gaia had 20 assists and 14 digs, her 10th double-double of the year.
- Hendrix won the season series against Berry 2-1. The Warriors won both matches on the Vikings' court.

Berry Notes
- Jessica Gum had nine kills and eight blocks to lead the Vikings.
- Lauren Schmitz nearly recorded a triple-double with nine kills, 30 assists and 13 digs.
- Christina Goforth also had nine kills.
- Katie Truluck led the defense with 27 digs.
