SHREVEPORT, La. - The Hendrix College men's basketball team fell to Austin College 79-76 in the SCAC-SAA Challenge at the Gold Dome Saturday evening.
The Warriors (1-1) were led by junior guard
Travis Garrett's career-high 25 points, but the Kangaroos (3-0) prevailed.
Austin led 36-31 at halftime and expanded their lead to as many as 10 early in the second period. Trailing 63-58 with 7:06 left in the game, the Warriors went on a 9-3 run over the next 3:23 to lead by one with under four minutes to play.
Tied at 69-69 with 3:08 remaining, the 'Roos got back-to-back buckets from Cedric Hudson and Brian Bahel. Hendrix freshman point guard
Preston Smith buried a three-pointer with 1:43 left to cut the deficit to 73-72. Hudson made another layup and Smith went 1-for-2 on free throws to make the score 75-73 in AC's favor. Stephen Igbinosa hit a pair of free throws with 18 seconds left to give Austin a four-point lead. Garrett drained his sixth three of the game with 10 seconds left to make it 77-76. Josh Dickerman made a pair of free throws with 3.8 seconds on the clock to secure the win for the 'Roos. Smith's half court shot as time ran out hit the front of the rim.
For the game, Hendrix shot 47.2 percent (23-of-53) from the field and were 11-of-24 from outside, but only 15-of-28 at the line. Austin shot 53.7 percent (29-of-54) from the floor, 4-of-14 from three-point range and 17-of-22 at the free throw stripe. The 'Roos held a 33-22 advantage in rebounds.
Hendrix Notes- Garrett was 7-for-10 overall and 6-of-9 from outside. He also had a career-high with five rebounds and tied his best with three assists.
- Smith made four three-pointers for 15 points to go with six assists.

Jordan Barrett had five points, three assists and two steals.
Austin Notes- Alan Sullivan led the 'Roos with 14 points and two blocks.
- Igbinosa had 13 points and five boards.
- Baehl scored 12 points with seven assists. Hudson also had 12 points and six rebounds.
- Austin Freet recorded five points, four assists and eight boards.
