SHREVEPORT, La. - The Hendrix College women's basketball team were edged out by Austin College 66-65 in the SCAC-SAA Challenge at the Gold Dome Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors (1-1) led 40-29 at halftime after shooting 43 percent (14-of-32) from the floor and 8-of-9 at the free throw line.
Hendrix led the Kangaroos (2-0) 65-52 with 3:05 left, but Austin scored the final 14 points of the game, including the game-winning free throws by Kendall Heitmeier with six seconds remaining. Hendrix missed four shots and turned the ball twice in the final three minutes.
The Warriors only shot 22 percent (7-of-32) in the second half, while the 'Roos shot 41 percent (13-of-32).
For the game, Hendrix shot 32.8 percent (21-of-64) from the floor, 41.2 percent (7-of-17) from three-point range and 76.2 percent (16-of-21) at the line. Austin shot 41.7 percent (25-of-60) from the field, 4-of-15 from outside and 12-of-14 from the line. Hendrix held a 42-35 advantage on the boards.
Hendrix Notes- Senior point guard
Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler was three points off her career high with 26. She drained four three-pointers and had six assists, five rebounds and a pair of steals.
- Sophomore guard
Breann Forbes had nine points, four boards, a block and a steal off the bench.
- Sophomore forward
Heather Prowse tied her career-high with seven points to go with six rebounds.
- Senior forward
Katy Gallien had five points, eight boards, three assists, two blocks and two steals.
Austin Notes- Brianna Harvey led the 'Roos with 18 points and seven boards.
- Chrissy Ray had 13 points on 6-of-7 shooting.
- Heitmeier finished with 12 points and six assists.
- Bryce Frank added 14 points off the bench.
