MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Hendrix College women's basketball team opened the Rhodes College Thanksgiving Classic with a 102-61 victory over Rust College at Mallory Gymnasium Saturday afternoon.
The Warriors (3-1) shot a school-record 63.5 percent (40-of-63) from the field, breaking the old record of 61.8 percent against Fisk on Dec. 7, 2002. en route to the big victory. It was also the first time the Orange & Black have scored 100 points since Hendrix topped Millsaps 102-80 on Feb. 17, 2006.
The Warriors led the Lady Bearcats (0-5) 23-7 after the first quarter and 50-18 at halftime.
Hendrix also shot 6-of-16 from three-point range and 16-of-19 (84.2 percent) from the free throw line. Rust shot 31.3 percent (21-of-67) overall, 7-of-23 from outside and 12-of-20 at the stripe. The Warriors held a 45-30 rebound advantage. Both teams committed 15 turnovers.
Hendrix Notes- Junior forward
Anna King tied the school record by shooting 88.9 percent (8-of-9) from the field. She scored 20 points and pulled down nine rebounds.
- Senior point guard
Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler also scored 20 points, hitting a trio of three-pointers, and dished out seven assists, tying her season best.
- Sophomore forward
Heather Prowse came up with 10 points and four boards.
- Sophomore center
Sara Dyslin came off the bench to add 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocks.
- Sophomore center
Madison Martin also had 10 points and four rebounds.
- Sophomore guard
Leah Smith added six points on 3-of-3 shooting.
- Junior guard
Hailey Bode recorded a career-high five assists.
- Freshman forward
Maddie Anderson recorded a season-best six rebounds.
Rust Notes- Center Demetrius Bradshaw led the Lady Bearcats with 17 points and five rebounds.
- Jasmine Golden had 12 points, four boards and three steals.
- Shermeka Lewis scored seven points.
Up NextHendrix will face #13 Maryville College in Memphis at 4 p.m. Sunday.
