MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Hendrix College women's basketball defeated #11/13 Maryville College 70-64 on the final day of the Rhodes College Thanksgiving Classic Sunday.
The game was close through the first half with the Scots (4-1) taking a 29-27 lead at halftime.
With, Maryville up 63-62 with 4:04 left in the game, the Warriors (4-1) took the lead on a three-pointer by senior guard
Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler seven seconds later. Mindy Brackins went 1-for-2 at the line for the Scots to make the game 65-64 with 3:39 to play. Sophomore center
Sara Dyslin made a layup on the Warriors' next possession to go up 67-64. Dyslin,
Leah Smith and
Anna King all made free throws in the final minute to secure the 70-64 victory.
For the game, Hendrix shot 33.3 percent (18-of-54) from the field, 3-of-16 from behind the arc and 31-of-38 at the free throw line. Maryville shot 35 percent (21-of-60) from the field, 4-of-16 from three-point range and 18-of-23 from the stripe. The Warriors had a 42-39 advantage in rebounds.
Hendrix Notes- At 4-1, the Warriors are off to their best start since 2009-10.
- Kriesel-Bigler led the Warriors with 17 points to go with seven assists and four rebounds.
- Dyslin came off the bench to scored 15 points and pull down five boards. She went 9-of-10 at the free throw line.
- Sophomore forward
Heather Prowse recorded her first career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 10 boards.
- King added eight points and eight rebounds off the bench.
- Smith finished with a career-high eight points.
Maryville Notes- Mackenzie Puckett led the Scots with 21 points.
- Brackins finished with 14 points.
- Allyson Freiermuth had nine rebounds.
- Jordan Ballard had five points, five rebounds and five assists.
Up Next- Hendrix will face Rhodes College at home on Wednesday to open Southern Athletic Association play.
