Warriors Fall to Pirates in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Hendrix College men's basketball team were defeated by Southwestern University 84-72 on the final day of the Trinity Invitational Saturday night.

The Warriors (1-9) built a 25-18 lead with 7:26 to play in the first half, but the Pirates (3-6) fought back to tkae a 43-39 lead at the break. SU scored the first six points of the second half to lead 49-39, but Hendrix went on a 16-7 run to make the game 56-54 with 10:09 to play. The Pirates outscored the Warriors 28-18 in the final 10 minutes nail down the win.

Hendrix shot 50 percent (14-of-28) in the first half, but went cold in the final period, making just 28.6 percent (10-of-35) of their shots. For the game, the Warriors shot 38.1 percent (24-of-63) from the field, 9-of-29 from three-point range and 15-of-23 at the free throw line. The Pirates shot 45.2 percent (28-of-62) overall, 8-of-22 from outside and 20-of-27 at the stripe. Hendrix held a 42-37 rebound advantage.

Hendrix Notes
- Graduate student forward John Ogle scored 13 points and tied his season-high with nine rebounds.
- Junior guard Aaron Steele also had 13 points and a career-high six boards.
- Freshman Preston Smith had 11 points and five rebounds off the bench.
- Junior guard Bryce Parker added nine points and dished out two assists.
- Junior center Gearen Littlefield had seven points and nine rebounds.
- Freshman forward Bryce Batchelor scored seven off the bench.
- Senior guard Drew Nikolovski recorded six points, four rebounds and four assists.

Southwestern Notes
- Karrey Sanders led the Pirates with 16 points.
- Ryan Ogden had 15 points, nine rebounds and two blocks.
- Connor Kim scored 13 points.
- Chris Molina added 12 points and four assists
- Benjamin Stiver also scored 12 and pulled down six boards.
- Chris Lee netted 10 points with three steals.
- The Pirates are coached by Hendrix alum Janson Hightower (2010).

Up Next
Hendrix will be off until Dec. 29 when they face Emory & Henry at the Rhodes Classic in Memphis, Tenn.
