Warriors Shoot Down Comets

FRISCO, Texas - The Hendrix College baseball team earned their third win of the season, downing the University of Texas at Dallas 9-2 at Dr. Pepper Ballpark in Frisco in the final game of their weekend series.

Hendrix jumped all over UT Dallas in the first frame, putting up four runs in their initial opportunity at the plate. Wyatt Hogan and Jake Wiegand each cashed in with runners in scoring position, ripping a pair of two-run singles to put the Warriors up 4-0 in the first. The Orange and Black added two more in the second, extending the lead to 6-0.

The Warriors were blanked until the bottom of the eighth inning when they put up three more insurance runs. Drew Judson added an RBI single, Ryan Ritz came home on an error, and Matt Simmons drove home Judson on a sacrifice fly to extend the Hendrix lead to 9-2.

Cannon Schrank, Brian Commerford, Baker Helton, and Colten Poellinger combined to sedate the UT Dallas offense, allowing just a pair of runs over the course of the game. Schrank started with four scoreless, and Commerford followed with three more shutout innings. Helton allowed a pair of runs, on a walk and a hit in the eighth and Poellinger shut the door with a scoreless ninth.
