CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College men's basketball team suffered a 78-66 defeat to Oglethorpe University at Grove Gymnasium Sunday afternoon.
The Warriors fall to 7-16 on the year and 2-10 in Southern Athletic Association play. They take on Millsaps College, who is 3-9, on Friday and Birmingham-Southern College next Sunday in hopes of moving up to the sixth seed for the SAA Tournament in two weeks. The Stormy Petrels improve to 16-7 and 7-5 and are tied for fourth place.
OU led 34-20 at halftime, but the Warriors opened the second half with a 17-8 spurt to make the game 42-37 with 15:24 to play. The Petrels answered with there own 22-6 run over the next six and a half minutes to take control of the game.
Hendrix shot 38.6 percent (22-of-57) from the field, 7-of-22 from three-point range and 15-of-21 at the free throw line. Oglethorpe shot 46.9 percent (30-of-64) from the floor, 11-of-23 from outside and 7-of-10 at the stripe. OU also won the rebound battle 40-34.
Hendrix Notes- Junior guard
Hank Aldous scored 20 points, his second consecutive game of reaching 20 or more points. The Dallas native also recorded five rebounds, three assists and two steals.
- Senior forward
Luke Vance had 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and a school record six blocked shots.
- Junior forward
Alec Conard came off the bench for eight points on 3-of-3 shooting, with four boards.
- Guards
Aaron Steele and
Drew Nikolovski each hit a pair of three-pointers for six points. Nikolovski also had three assists, two blocks and two steals.
- Sophomore center
Gearen Littlefield scored a season-high eight points to go with five rebounds.
Oglethorpe Notes- Drew Patrick led all players with 21 points and eight rebounds and also had three assists and three steals.
- Connor Smith hit five outside shots for 17 points.
- Forwards Chris Lawrence and Chase Wardlaw each had 10 points.
- Romello Bates scored eight points and dished out six points off the bench.
