Vance Carries Warriors to Win on Senior Night

CONWAY, Ark. - On a night dedicated to the seniors, Luke Vance led the Hendrix College men's basketball team to a crucial conference win against Southern Athletic Association rival Millsaps College, downing the Majors 59-44 on Friday night.

Before the game, Vance and student-assistant coach Jackson Cohen were honored for their four years with the basketball program. During the game, Vance stepped up, putting up 17 points and pulling down a season-high 13 rebounds in 39 minutes on the court.

Hank Aldous chipped in with 12 points and reached career-highs in rebounds (14) and blocks (5). Aaron Steele tied his highest offensive output with 11 points off the bench and dished out a career-best eight assists.

In the first half, the Warriors didn't take long to find their stride on offense, and midway through the first half went on a 9-0 run capped by a Bryce Parker three-pointer to take a 20-9 lead. John Ogle hit a three with 2:47 left to give the Warriors a 30-14 lead, their largest of the first half. On the final possession of the frame, Aldous drilled a fading three-pointer and the Orange and Black went into the halftime break leading 35-20.

Hendrix continued their pace in the second half, taking their largest lead of the game with 12:18 remaining when Travis Garrett found Vance for a layup. Millsaps didn't go down without a fight, going on a 12-2 run over the next seven minutes to cut the lead to 11.

The Warriors were able to hold off the Majors' rally. The game came to a fitting end on the final possession, with Vance grabbing an offensive rebound with seven seconds remaining to run out the clock and seal the Hendrix victory.
