Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Hendrix Maintains Momentum, Tops Oglethorpe

CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College women's basketball remained undefeated at home in Southern Athletic Association games with an 86-82 victory over Oglethorpe University at Grove Gymnasium Sunday.

The Warriors (12-11, 7-5) moved to 5-0 at home in league games and are tied with Rhodes College for third place with two games remaining. Millsaps College has clinched at least a tie for first place at 10-2 and Berry College, who Hendrix defeated on Friday, sits in second at 8-4. The top seed will host the SAA Tournament in two weeks. The Stormy Petrels (10-13, 5-7) remain in fifth place.

In the first half, the Orange & Black shot 51.6 percent (16-of-31) from the field and went 17-of-19 from the free throw line to build a 52-39 advantage at halftime. A free throw by sophomore forward Anna King with 17:57 to play gave the Warriors a 16-point lead, their biggest of the game.

Hendrix led 80-66 with 5:12 to play, but Oglethorpe answered with a 13-0 run over the next four minutes and trailed just 80-79 with 58 seconds left. Junior point guard Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler made a pair of free thrrows to go back up by three with 55 seconds on the clock, but Ciaira Hughes hit a jumper to cut the deficit to one with 44 seconds reamining.

Warrior freshman center Sara Dyslin, the hero of Friday's win over Berry, scored a bucket on Hendrix' next possession, then snagged a rebound on the Peterels' miss. With 12 seconds left, Kriesel-Bigler drained another pair of free throws to make the game 86-81. Hughes was fouled with six seconds left, but she made only one of the two shots, giving the Warriors the victory.
