CONWAY, Ark. - For the first time this season, the Hendrix College women's basketball team was topped by a conference opponent at home, falling 61-48 to Southern Athletic Association leader Millsaps College on Friday night. Before the game, the team honored senior
Kati Broberg for her four years as a Warrior.
Katy Gallien scored a career-high 14 points to lead the Warriors and snagged seven rebounds as well.
Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler added 13 points, dished out three assists and added a pair of steals.
Velvet Johnson was vital to Millsaps' success, playing all 40 minutes of the game and leading all scorers with 25 points. The senior guard knocked down 10 of Millsaps' final 12 points to seal the victory for the visiting Majors.
For the first 15 minutes of play, Millsaps and Hendrix battled back and forth as the Warriors kept the Majors in check. Over the final five minutes of the first half, the Majors went on a 15-6 run, extending their lead to 14 before the halftime break. When the two teams retreated to their locker rooms, Hendrix trailed Millsaps 37-23.
In the second half, the Warriors opened the frame with a 10-2 run to get back in the game. Gallien scored six straight points and
Sara Dyslin added a layup with 15:36 remaining to cut the lead to 39-33. After a Millsaps timeout, the Majors rallied for a 13-2 run of their own to widen the margin back out to 17 points. Kriesel-Bigler hit a pair of shots down the stretch for the Warriors, but it wasn't enough to overcome the Majors' lead.
Hendrix Notes- Hendrix shot just 32.1% from the floor, converting just 17-of-53 field goals on the night, tying their season-low for made field goals in a single game.
- The Warriors dropped their first home game against a conference opponent this season. Hendrix had won their previous eight home games against SAA opponents dating back to last season.

Sara Dyslin and
Anna King combined to score eight points on the evening, the first time this season the pair has been hold to a combined single-digit scoring total.
Millsaps Notes- With the victory and Berry's loss to Centre, Millsaps clinched the SAA regular season crown and the right to host the SAA Tournament as the top seed.
- Velvet Johnson scored 25 points on 11-of-18 shooting, tying her third-highest scoring performance on the season.
- Miah Brooks finished with 13 points and 16 rebounds, while Kala Freeman added 13 points and eight boards.
Up NextHendrix will return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they play host to conference foe Birmingham-Southern College in both teams' regular season finale.
