CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College softball team battled the weather and the Westminster College Blue Jays to earn a pair of wins on Friday night to kick off their Warrior Spring Fling. The Warriors earned a 4-2 victory in game one and rolled to an 11-1 five-inning win in game two.
Victoria Hughes went 4-for-7 from the plate with a stolen base, an RBI and four runs scored in both games combined, while
Michaela Larabee and
Morgan Fires each went 2-for-4 on the day.
Autumn Martin got the job done both offensively and defensively. In game one, Martin tossed a complete-game, scattering six hits and allowing just two runs (one earned) and hit an RBI single. In game two, Martin crushed a home run to left-center and scorched a triple down the left field line for a pair of RBI. She finished the day 3-for-5 from the plate with three RBI and two runs scored.
In game one, the Warriors were forced to rally back from an early 2-1 deficit to earn the win. Trailing in the bottom of the fourth, the Warriors manufactured a pair of runs on a hit, a sacrifice fly and an RBI groundout.

Morgan Fires came around to score, giving Hendrix a 3-2 lead. The squad added an insurance run in the fifth on a bunt single from Larabee. Hughes scored from second after Larabee induced a rundown between first and second base, distracting the Blue Jays as Hughes beat the throw home. With a 4-2 lead, Martin closed down the game to give the Warriors the win.
In the second game, the Hendrix bats came alive, scoring 11 runs on 11 hits. The Orange and Black put up eight runs in the first inning, sending 12 batters to the plate.
Samantha Schaefer highlighted the inning with a three-run triple to left. The lead was more than enough for freshman
Bryanna Carlisle who tossed five innings, recorded four strikeouts, and allowed just one run on five hits in her collegiate debut in the circle. The Warriors added more to their lead, scoring single runs in the second, third, and fourth innings to extend their lead to 11-1. Carlisle mowed through the Westminster lineup in the fifth to end the game and earn the win.
Hendrix Notes- With one hit in each game,
Morgan Fires extended her hitting streak to six games, dating back to last season.
- The Warriors' 3-1 start to the season is their best through four games since 2013. The squad went on to a 22-19 record on the season.
- Martin improves to 2-0 on the season with a 2.00 ERA and 10 strikeouts in 14.0 innings pitched.

Westminster Notes- Amber Tepen and Allison Biggs each finished with three hits on the day. The pair combined to go 6-for-13 in the second and third spots in the order.
- Seven different Blue Jays recorded at least one hit on the day.
- The team stranded a total of 13 runners, including nine left on base in game one.
Up NextHendrix improves to 3-1 on the year and will play out the second day of their Warrior Spring Fling on Saturday. The squad will take on #24 Washington University of St. Louis at 12 p.m. and will face Westminster at 2 p.m.
