Hendrix Completes Weekend Sweep at Centre

DANVILLE, Ky. - When the Hendrix College baseball team left campus on Friday to travel to Danville, Ky. to take on conference foe Centre College, the team did not forget their bats. The Warriors scored 27 runs on Sunday in a pair of routs, beating their Southern Athletic Association foe 18-3 and 9-3 to complete a three-game sweep.

Matt Simmons went 4-for-7 over the two games combined, scoring six runs and bringing home four RBI. Ryan Ritz went 5-for-10 from the plate with four runs scored and a stolen base. From the mound, the Warriors got a pair of stellar starts from Daniel Imbro and Kyle Teachout. Imbro tossed seven, allowing one earned run and striking out six for the win in game one, while Teachout threw five innings, allowing two earned runs and fanning a pair for the game two victory.

Hendrix lit up the Centre starter in game one, scoring three runs in the first inning and five more in the second. Drew Judson ripped an RBI double and Jake Wiegand followed later in the inning with a two-run single to highlight the Warriors' early offense.

The squad added a run in the fourth on a Wiegand sacrifice fly, but it wasn't until the eighth inning that the team's bats exploded. The Warriors sent 13 batters to the plate in the frame, scoring nine more insurance runs on six hits. Spencer Summers ripped a two-run double, followed by a two-run single by James Martin. Simmons and Chase Schilhab each laced RBI singles as the Warriors extended their lead with the eighth inning outburst to cruise to an 18-3 win in eight innings.

In game two, the Orange and Black picked up where they left off, putting up four runs in the top of the first. Ritz led off with a single and came home on three consecutive walks. A wild pitch and two RBI groundouts gave the Warriors a 4-0 lead before they took the field. Hendrix added to their lead in the third with RBI singles from Wyatt Hogan and Harley Faye, and tacked on three more insurance runs in the fifth to finish off the Colonels 9-3.
