SHERMAN, Texas - The Hendrix College women's tennis team lost to Austin College 5-1 in Sherman on Sunday. The loss was the first to a NCAA Divsion III for the Warriors (5-3).

The Kangaroos (3-2) swept through doubles, but Warrior the Warrior duo of senior Hannah Smashey and freshman Sarah Walker pushed Carlye Lide and Katie Barber to a 9-7 decision in the third flight. Sophomores Lauren Mahaney and Julia Lefler lost to Meghan White and Grace Ortiz 8-5 in number one doubles.

Smashey picked up Hendrix' only point by topping Magan Green 6-2, 7-6 (6-4) in number six singles. Lefler was leading White 6-4, 4-2 at number one when the match was called.

Hendrix will be off until Mar. 28 when they open Southern Athletic Association play at Sewanee - The University of the South.
