CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team took a tough loss on Tuesday night, falling 13-4 to nearby Central Baptist College at Warrior Field.
Jake Wiegand and
Brady Newville each went 2-for-4 on the night with an RBI apiece.
Matt Simmons went 1-for-2 with an RBI, a run scored, and two stolen bases.
Spencer Summers went 1-for-2 with an RBI as well.
Thomas Weber got the start for the Warriors, but took the loss allowing five runs in 3.1 innings pitched. Colton Poellinger tossed 3.2 innings of scoreless relief for the Warriors, while
Grant Nunn,
Brian Epstein, and
Harley Faye combined to finish out the game.
The Warriors allowed one run in the top of the first, but regained the lead in the bottom of the second with a pair of runs on three hits and an error. After
Wyatt Hogan reached on an error, Wiegand hit a long single to the left-center gap. Summers followed with a sacrifice fly and Newville drove in a run with a single two batters later. The two-run inning gave Hendrix a 2-1 lead headed into the third.
CBC captured the lead once again with a four-run third inning to make it 5-2, but Hendrix responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame.
Drew Judson led off with a double and Simmons brought him in with a single to left. Simmons then stole second base and came home to score on a Wiegand single right back up the middle, making it 5-4.
The Mustangs piled on the offense the rest of the game, scoring four runs in the fourth, two in the eighth, and two more in the ninth to extend their lead to 13-4.

Matt Simmons tied a career-high with two stolen bases on the evening, bringing his season total to eight and his career total to 21.
- Judson's third-inning double was his fifth of the season. He leads the team in doubles and extra base hits.

Colten Poellinger tossed 3.2 innings of scoreless relief, improving his season ERA from 3.18 to 2.40.

Jake Wiegand extended his hitting streak to six games. During that stretch the freshman is batting 8-for-19 (.421).
CBC Notes- Josh Buczek was a home run shy of the cycle, going 4-for-6 with a double, a triple, four runs, and a stolen base.
- Seth McLemore (3-for-5) and Samuel Buczek (2-for-3) each finished with a team-high four RBI.
- Gunner Allen earned the win, tossing 5.2 scoreless innings while allowing just two hits and four walks.
Up NextHendrix moves to 7-9 on the season and will head to Georgia beginning on March 21 with a doubleheader against #10 Emory College. The squad will also play Piedmont, DePauw, and LaGrange before closing the trip with a three game series at Southern Athletic Association rival Oglethorpe University.
