DEMOREST, Ga. - The Hendrix College baseball team suffered the first loss of their spring break trip to Georgia, falling 4-3 to the Piedmont College Lions on Tuesday evening.
Wyatt Hogan led the Hendrix offense, going 2-for-3 with a double and a solo home run.
Ryan Ritz also registered two hits, both singles.
Colten Poellinger went six innings, allowing three earned runs on six hits while striking out two.
Baker Helton allowed one run on one hit in two innings of work.
The Warriors spotted the Lions a three-run lead to begin the game as Piedmont scored once in the second inning and two more in the third. Hendrix got on the board in a big way in the top of the fifth when Hogan blasted a solo bomb on a 2-0 count, making the score 3-1.
In the top of the seventh the Warriors cut into the lead again.
Thomas Weber led off with a double and was brought in two batters later on an RBI groundout by
Jake Wiegand. Piedmont answered with a run in the bottom of the inning, regaining their two-run lead as they took a 4-2 advantage into the eighth.
In the top of the eighth inning, the Warriors threatened to tie the game. With two outs and runners on the corners,
Drew Judson ripped a single through the right side to bring home a run. The Hendrix baserunner, representing the tying run, rounded second and attempted to take third on the single to right, but was thrown out to end the inning and the Warriors' rally as the team trailed 4-3. The Orange and Black were retired in order in the ninth, taking just their second loss in the past eight games.

Wyatt Hogan's home run was his first of the season and the second of his career.

Ryan Ritz earned his 11th multi-hit game of the season, and his third in the Warriors' past four contests.
- Ritz also registered his 150th career hit, moving into 11th on the Hendrix all-time list.
- In his first start of the season,
Colten Poellinger registered the longest outing of his career, tossing 6.0 innings.
Piedmont Notes- The Piedmont three and four hitters combined to go 4-for-8 with two runs and two RBI.
- Catcher Daniel Lindsey threw out both attempted base-stealers in the game, holding the Warriors to 0-for-2 on stolen base attempts.
- Starter Max Oberkofler earned the win, going 7.0 innings and allowing two earned runs on four hits.
