CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team dropped a pair of conference tilts to Southern Athletic Association rival Berry College on Saturday afternoon, falling 10-4 in game one and 6-4 in game two.
Matt Simmons finished with three hits and four RBI for the Warriors on the day while
Brady Newville went 4-for-5 from the dish with three RBI in the two games combined.
Ryan Ritz went 4-for-7 with two runs scored and a stolen base.Â
In game one, the Warriors fell behind 2-0 in the second inning when Berry strung together a pair of hits to take the lead. The squad responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to tie the game. Newville ripped a two-run double down the right field line to knot the game at 2-2.
In the sixth, Berry tacked on two more runs but the Warriors responded again, matching the Vikings with a two-run inning of their own. Simmons provided a clutch two-out single to bring home a pair of runs, locking the game back up at 4-4.
The Warriors fell behind again in the seventh, but had no answer this time as the Vikings pulled away with a run in the eighth and three more in the ninth to take a 10-4 win.
In game two, Hendrix held a brief 3-1 lead in the third inning. Simmons laced an RBI single in the first, and another in the third.
Thomas Weber also registered an RBI single as the Orange and Black took a two-run lead over the visitors.Â
In the top of the fourth, Berry put up five runs to gain a 6-3 lead. The Vikings strung together five hits and capitalized on one Hendrix error to gain the three-run advantage.
Cannon Schrank worked the Warriors out of the jam, limiting the damage by stranding the bases loaded.Â
In the bottom of the seventh the Warriors threatened to tie the game.
Seth Mobley led off the inning with a single followed by a walk issued to Ritz. Two batters later,
Thomas Weber was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Simmons brought home his fourth RBI of the day on a fielder's choice, making it 6-4. The Warriors had the tying run on second base with two down in the bottom of the inning, but couldn't bring the runner home, falling 6-4 to their conference rival.
Hendrix Notes- With two RBI in each of today's games, Simmons earned his fourth and fifth multi-RBI games.

Will Nichol recorded six strikeouts, tying his career-high, for the fourth time this season.
- Ritz and Weber each extended their hitting streaks to five games apiece, tied for the longest current streak on the team.

Nick Land and
Harley Faye combined for three scoreless innings of relief in game two, keeping the Warriors within striking distance.
- In the two games combined, Hendrix left 22 runners on base, and left the bases loaded four times.
Berry Notes- Alex McGill and Ben Jernigan combined to go 9-for-13 from the plate with six runs and seven RBI in the fourth and fifth slots of the Vikings' order.
- Berry stole four bases in each of Saturday's games, tied for second-most stolen bases allowed in a single game by Hendrix this season.
- Both of Berry's pitching wins were credited to relievers. Hendrix scored seven of their eight total runs off of Berry starters.
