CONWAY, Ark. - The Hendrix College women's tennis team fell 6-3 to Southern Athletic Association rival Millsaps College on Sunday afternoon.
Lauren Mahaney was the team's only double-winner in the final home match of the season.
In doubles play, the Orange and Black fell at first and third doubles, but took the second flight as they trailed 2-1 entering singles play. Mahaney teamed with
Julia Lefler for the second doubles win, earning an 8-2 victory at the flight. The second doubles pair have won six straight matches, including five against conference opponents.
In singles play, Mahaney cruised to a straight set victory at third singles, downing Millsaps' Anna Brahce 6-1, 6-3.
Hannah Smashey earned the only other singles point for the Warriors, taking down Rachel Beck at fifth singles. Smashey won the first set in a tiebreaker 7-6, dropped the second 6-2, and took the third set superbreaker 10-6 for the win. The victory marked Smashey's sixth consecutive singles win, as she improved to 3-0 in three-set matches this season.
Hendrix moves to 7-8 on the season with a 1-5 mark in the SAA. The squad will finish out their regular season with a trip to Memphis to take on Rhodes College on Saturday.
