JACKSON, Miss. - Junior starter
Will Nichol threw a four-hit shutout and
Harley Faye and
Ryan Ritz hit solo home runs to help the Hendrix College baseball team defeated Sewanee - The University of the South 4-0 in a Southern Athletic Association elimination game at Twenty Field on Saturday afternoon.
Nichol (4-3) struck out a career-high eight batters in nine innings - the longest outing of his career. He only faced four batters past the minimum to help the Warriors (19-21) to the win.
Ritz, a senior center fielder, hit the third home run of his career with one out in the third to put the Warriors on the board. First baseman
Thomas Weber followed with a double and scored on a
Brady Newville base hit to give Hendrix a 2-0 advantage. Faye connected on his first home run to lead off the fourth inning.
The final run of the game came in the fifth when senior
Matt Simmons hit a single, stole second and scored on a base to right by sophomore left fielder
Wyatt Hogan.
Hendrix Notes- Simmons played in his 164th career game, making him the school's all time leader.
- The Warriors outhit the Tigers 10-4, but Weber's double was the only extra base hit.
- Nichol earned his 12th win of his career, tying for sixth place in school history. It was also his third complete game effort of his career.

Seth Mobley threw out the 45th runner of his career, tying him for first in program history with assistant coach
Andrew Thames.
- Simmons also stole his 15th stolen base of the year.
Sewanee Notes- The Tigers ended their season with a 11-24 record.
- They managed just four singles - one each from Jackson Cooper, Tony Dykes, Derek Hullings and Michael Walker.
- Charles Warren (1-4) took the loss, going 4.0 innings and allowing five hits and three runs.
