SPRINGDALE, Ark. - The Hendrix College baseball team rolled to a 7-2 road victory over Ecclesia College on Tuesday evening.
The Warriors (15-14) outhit the host Royals (22-12) 14-6. The 14 hits was tied for the second most this season for the Orange & Black.
Hendrix started things with a two-run first inning when first baseman
Thomas Weber doubles and senior right fielder
Matt Simmons reached on a fielder's choice. Both runners scored after Simmons stole second and the EC pitcher threw the ball away. The Royals answered with a run in the bottom of the frame when Eduardo Torres doubled and scored on a sac fly by Gerry Sifuentes.
The Warriors added four more runs on three hits and two errors in the second, making their lead 6-1. Freshman
Jake Wiegand had a RBI-single and senior center fielder
Ryan Ritz drove in two with a base hit.
Ecclesia scored again in the sixth when Sifuentes doubled and scored on a Juan Salazer hit to left center.
Hendrix' final run came in the seventh when Ritz plated senior
Brady Newville with his third hit of the game.
Brian Commerford (2-0) started the game and struck out two while allowing three hits and a run over three innings to earned his second win of the year.
Taylor Burnett took the loss for the Royals, allowing seven hits, two earned runs, three walks and a strikeout in four innings.
Hendrix Notes- Six pitchers were used by the Warriors with
Connor Nelson,
Baker Helton,
Brooks Billings,
Nick Land and
Grant Nunn throwing in relief.
- Ritz went 3-for-5 with three RBI. The performance was his 16th multiple-hit game of the season and the fifth time with three or more hits.
- Weber connected on a pair of doubles and a single. He now has nine multiple-hit games this season.
- Sophomore second baseman
Harley Faye went 3-for-4 with a run scored. It was the most hits for Faye since the season opener at Harding on Feb. 10.
- Wiegand went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI.
- Senior catcher
Seth Mobley extended his school single record with his 10th sacrifice bunt of the year.
- Simmons stole his team-leading 12th base.
Ecclesia Notes- Six different Royals each had a hit.
- Sifuentes and Torres both recorded doubles.
Up NextHendrix hosts Berry College for a three-game Southern Athletic Association series beginning on Saturday.
