Conway, Ark. - Things went smoothly for the Hendrix College women's tennis team on Thursday afternoon as they earned an 8-1 victory over LeTourneau College in a non-conference tune-up match.
The Warriors cruised through doubles play, sweeping the three flights to take a 3-0 lead into the singles rounds.
Pratheepa Ravikumar and
Laela Zaidi faced the biggest challenge at first doubles, but pulled out an 8-6 win.
Julia Lefler and
Lauren Mahaney won their fourth straight match at second doubles by the score of 8-3 and
Hannah Smashey teamed with
Sarah Walker at third doubles for an 8-2 victory.
In singles, four Warriors earned straight-set wins to seal the team victory. Ravikumar at first singles, Lefler at third, Walker at fourth, and Smashey at the sixth flight.
Laela Zaidi pulled out a third set win, beating LeTourneau's Kristen Ladner 10-8 in a third-set superbreaker at fifth singles. At the second flight, Mahaney almost completed the sweep for the Warriors. The sophomore dropped the first set 7-6 but rallied for a 6-3 win in the second set to force a superbreaker. Mahaney battled, but fell 10-8 at the second flight.
The Warriors will resume conference play on Saturday when they play host to Southern Athletic Association foe Birmingham-Southern College.
