ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Forward
Morgan Fires scored a goal and an assist for Hendrix College as they lost a 4-2 decision to NCAA Division II member Newberry College at the Lindenwood Invitational on Sunday afternoon.
The Wolves (1-3) took a 1-0 lead late in the first half on a Caitlyn Warren goal. She scored again the 37th minute to make it 2-0. The Warriors (0-5) scored when Fires assisted sophomore forward
Brooke Whitaker's goal in the 42nd minute.
Two minutes later Meghan Smiga scored for Newberry, then Warren added her third goal of the game in the 47th minute. Fires had the final goal of the contest in the 57th minute.
Newberry outshot Hendrix 30-8 overall and 24-6 on goal. The Wolves also had an 11-5 advantage in penalty corners.
Hendrix Notes- Fires, from Bremrton, Wash., scored her ninth career goal and moved into a tie for sixth place in Hendrix history.
