Warriors Suffer Overtime Loss to Blueboys

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Hendrix College men's soccer team lost 2-1 in overtime to Illinois College on the final day of the Greg Volgas Memorial in Memphis Sunday.

It was the third overtime game of the season and second in as many days for the Warriors (1-3-2), who battled Piedmont to a 1-1 double overtime tie on Saturday.

The Blueboys (4-2) took an early lead 3:21 into the game when Anthony Willard scored on a deflection. Senior midfielder Jacob Pierce tied the game in the 43rd minute on a free kick goal.

The game remained scoreless in the second half, although both teams had chances.

Pierce took a penalty kick in the 51st minute, but it was saved by IC's Ty Clearwater. The Blueboys also received a penalty kick opportunity in the 70th minute, but Joe Tooley's shot was stopped by sophomore keeper Nathan Myers.

With 3:28 left in overtime, Alex Gardner had the game-winning goal.

IC outshot Hendrix 21-15 overall and 10-8 on goal. The Blueboys also had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Hendrix Notes
- The goal was the second for Pierce this season and the 15th of his career. The Fulton, Mo. product moved into a tie for fourth place on the Warriors' all-time goal leader list.
- Myers stopped seven shots.
- Jacob Warren and Ryan Stanowski each had two shots on goal.

Illinois College Notes
- Clearwater finished with six saves.
- Willard took five shots, four on goal
