Thunder Hand Warriors First Loss of Season

ELMHURST, Ill. - The Hendrix College volleyball team suffered their first loss of the season, falling to Wheaton College 25-21, 25-18, 19-25, 25-20 in the first match of the Elmhurst Volleyball Invitational.

The Thunder (1-0) jumped out to a 21-11 lead in the first set, but the Warriors (2-1) fought back with a 10-4 run, eventually losing the set 25-21. Wheaton took the second by 25-18, but Hendrix rebounded with a third set victory 25-19. The Orange & Black connected on 13 kills in the frame, while the Thunder hit -.083.

Tied at 19-19 in the fourth set, Wheaton won six of the final seven points to take the match.

Hendrix recorded hit .087 with 41 kills, five aces, 49 digs and 11 blocks. Wheaton hit .082 with 38 kills, eight aces, 48 digs and eight blocks.

Hendrix Notes
- Junior setter Allison Gaia recorded the 10th double-double of her career with 16 assists and 12 digs.
- Freshman Amber Melcher had 10 assists and senior Jill Sikes had a career-best eight assists to go with six digs.
- Sophomore right side Lauren Petrisin paced the Warrior offense with 14 kills and hit .267.
- Junior MC Rogers knocked down 12 kills.
- Sophomore middle blocker Sara Dyslin had seven blocks while junior right side Natalie Masten recorded a career-best six blocks.
- Junior Leila Matsumoto recorded 10 digs.

Wheaton Notes
- Shelby Knowles led the Thunder with 14 kills and four aces to go with 12 digs.
- Kelli Manning had 17 digs to lead all players.
- Ashley Torok and Kelly Thornton each posted 15 assists.
